Mercury is an automobile marque of the Ford Motor Company founded in 1939 to market entry-level-luxury cars slotted between Ford-branded regular models and Lincoln-branded luxury vehicles, similar to General Motors’ Buick (and former Oldsmobile) brand and Chrysler’s Chrysler brand. The 49 Coupe was the most excellent, in our opinion, of the Mercury line. It had the 1930-40′s gangster mob feel to it that made you feel like you were rolling down the streets of Chicago in 1949!
